Pendant is a soda-fired, Oribé-glazed stoneware pot shard, bezel-set in oxidized sterling silver. Necklace is made of bunch-strung, pearl-knotted large metal Ethiopian heishi beads and faceted rounds of amazonite. All findings are handmade and sterling silver. Necklace length: 45 cm / 18 in.
The Oribé glaze not only matches the amazonite perfectly, it contains beautiful crystal formations. It came from a large pot that was the only one in the entire firing to emerge covered in these crystals. I very quickly came to terms with the fact that I prized the crystalline qualities of the glaze more than I did the pot itself, so I shattered it to make cabochons of the shards. Fired in the BaliCat soda kiln at Gaya CAC in Bali.
*Care note: pearl-knot necklaces should be stored laid flat, not hanging. Do not wear swimming or in the shower.
